Shanghai, November 2

We head off to Shanghai.  We are staying at the Shanghai Fish Inn Bund.  The hotel is a quaint sort of a hostel makeover.  The room is a bilevel sort of suite with the bed up 5 or 6 steps and a couch and desk and TV on the lower level.  Also the bathroom is on the lower level as well.  This makes getting up in the middle of the night to pee somewhat treacherous!  Solution:  leave the light in the shower on as a night light.  We just needed enough to see the next step as there was no hand rail.
This looks scarier than it is.  This is the walk down the road to the Shanghai Fish Inn Bund.  You can barely make out the small rectangular sign at the end of the building on the left.  It is up pretty high!  The Inn is just beyond the building on the left and inset so you can't see the front of it.

We go exploring the area.  There is a pedestrian street nearby that has tons of shopping and food options.  We wander along it marveling at the bright lights and thinking if you have never been to Times Square or Vegas, then this would really wow you.

This photo was taken around dusk.  The lights are just starting to come on.  We went to a restaurant in one of the malls.
