November 30

We decided to explore some of Hong Kong Island with an eye towards perhaps staying on that side of Hong Kong for another visit.

We opted to take the ferry over and then wander up the mid-level escalator.  This is a genius solution for the steep hills that are on Hong Kong Island.  There is a single escalator that during the morning rush hour only goes down, and all other times only goes up.  Our original plan was to head to a temple in that area.  Well, we got side tracked and just enjoyed the wandering around these neighborhoods.

We stopped in a cafe in the area called Soho, so it seems only natural to stop at a bar that had a balcony, billed as the only balcony cafe in soho.

As John posted in a comment on Facebook, "What a surprise, Bill, a beer, and a guide book!"

Kitty corner across from the cafe above, was an Eqyptian restaurant.  We went from one balcony to another!  The mezze were excellent.
We wandered down the hill and I took the subway home and Bill explored a bit more.

We realized that the Soho area of Hong Kong Island was really the expat area.  Very few Chinese were around.  Which made it feel sort of odd being in China and all.  It was fun to explore the areas on the island proper, but we like the grittier, (not really, it is Hong Kong after all) and more Chinese side to the City.
